If you’ve completed a transaction at one of our Bitcoin ATMs and noticed that the amount of cryptocurrency received is lower than expected, there are a few common reasons this might happen. In most cases, this is due to transaction fees or checking the crypto value in the wrong currency. This article will walk you through how our fees work, how to confirm the value you received in Canadian Dollars (CAD), and how to ensure everything adds up correctly.
Check If Fees Were Accounted For
When buying cryptocurrency through a Localcoin ATM, two types of fees are applied to your transaction:
-
Flat Fee
-
Percent Fee
These fees vary depending on the cryptocurrency you’re purchasing and are factored into the total rate shown at the machine during your transaction. This means the rate displayed already includes the percent fee, so you are not charged any additional amount beyond what is shown.

How Are Fees Calculated at Localcoin?
Are You Viewing Your Crypto Amount in USD?
One of the most common reasons customers believe they received less crypto is because they're looking at the value in USD instead of CAD.
Since all Localcoin transactions are in Canadian Dollars (CAD), it's important to make sure you're checking your crypto value in the correct currency.
How to Check Your Crypto’s Value in CAD
You can confirm the value of your received crypto in CAD by doing the following:
-
Find the exact amount of cryptocurrency you received (e.g., 0.0017 BTC).
-
Open Google and search:
0.0017 BTC to CAD -
Google will show you the current value of that amount in Canadian Dollars.
Please note that due to price fluctuations and exchange rate differences, the value may slightly vary from the time of your transaction.
Example Scenario
Let’s say you inserted $100 CAD into a Bitcoin ATM and expected more BTC than you received. Here's what could have happened:
-
A flat fee (e.g., $4) was deducted.
-
A percent fee (e.g., 16%) was included in the exchange rate shown.
-
You're looking at the value in USD, not CAD.
Once you account for those elements, the amount you received is likely accurate.
Still Unsure?
